A Dad Gives His Daughter a Beehive: How One Gift Started a Beekeeping Journey

Happy Father’s Day!🐝

If you’ve read my recent post about how I got into beekeeping, you know that my dad was the one who got me into beekeeping. He gave me my first hive, and it was such a booming hive, with a really good queen.

To this day, Pa is the one I go to when I get stumped. We bounce beekeeping ideas and questions off each other, and it’s such a blessing to have someone I can talk bees with, just about nonstop. When I somehow manage to get a deep box full of honey that I just can’t get to budge, no matter how much I lift, he’s the one who comes and helps me lift it up. He and I also team up when it comes to treating the bees. He’ll lift the supers and I quickly put on the Formic Pro strips. We make a good beekeeping team I think.

So even though this isn’t my traditional posting style, I wanted to take a minute to recognize my Pa, since he was the one that got me into bees in the first place. And for those of you who have the privilege of working bees with their dads, you know how much of a blessing this can be.

Thanks Pa, for my first hive, for teaching me so much about bees, and for letting me rattle on and on about bees to you, and for your help in the bee yard. I wouldn’t be the beekeeper I am today, without your help!
